Update July 11th, 2008:
Been a while since I last updated. Honestly, I haven't worked much on Super Smash Karts until just recently, but the progress I've done just this morning is immense. I think I've finally gotten a collision system that works and stock is all up and fancy now. Basically, what's left for Super Smash Karts to be a completed game are the following:
Custom Characters (this was in the works but I stopped working on it. I have an idea to work around the problem I've had with it)
Adventure Mode (waiting on my sister, Irene-the-Dog, to do the scenes)
Online Mode (although if Adventure mode gets done first, I'll probably make an Online version of SSK instead)
Tournament mode (shouldn't take me too long)
More Pokemon
Maybe one or two more summons
Maybe five more stages
Make more intelligent AI and more in between AI for different difficulty settings
Add a sort of trophy or sticker mode kind of like Super Smash Bros.'s trophy mode. Might implement a coin system...
And that's it. Demo 4.1 is nothing like what I have now but I want to hold off releasing yet another demo until I'm completely finished.
Update May 1st, 2008:
Super Smash Karts has hit an iceberg, but unlike the Titanic, it won't sink. I haven't had time to work on it lately because of exams, school, etc. Since I'm taking summer classes this year, the story continues. Still, I'm determined to see this through to the end even if I'm running out of ideas on what to do. (And actually, there's quite a bit to do).
Also, the next build will support Vistas. A good friend of mine was complaining that the game was great but he had to switch to XP in order to play it. That's going to be fixed. Forever. [insert evil Bowser laugh here].
Here's a list of things to do at the immediate moment:
Fix collisions (AGAIN! like another friend said to me, my collision's programming is like part of the design... even if I don't like it!)
Fix the Lunar and PacMan stage. Seems like the game hates rectangles.
Stop making so many dang summons and things and start doing something for one player modes.
Figure out how to include online. If I can't figure it out, I'll have to drop it! O_O
Figure out how to make the program read a file! It shouldn't be so hard, so why is it?! X_x
Add "stock" mode.
Fix a nasty bug with Jack's limit (2nd player has the old limit).
Then there's stuff like add an intro and the Adventure mode. If the intro uses sprites again, blame my sister (Irene-the-Dog). She did an awesome "Fox hiding from Samus in a forest scene" picture for the intro, but then she goes off and says she lost inspiration. I'm like WTF?! She blames Ness and Lucas's "little-ness". >_>
Well that's it for now. Just wanted to let everyone know the project's alive, just slow. Might do something about the e-mail thing today though... Edit: E-mail thing: done.
Update March 19th, 2008:
Well, I got Custom Characters half working. Why only half? Well, the game doesn't want to read the character's stats. I could get around this somehow but after like three or four hours trying to get the custom sprite centered and pretty, I feel kind of tired. Off to play Dragon Quest Swords... or do homework I was supposed to be done with. X_x
Update March 9th, 2008:
Changed the physics in Super Smash Karts again. Now they follow slighty more realistic rules of physics... I hope... We'll know if I pass Physics or not. :P
Update March 2nd, 2008:
I picked up Super Smash Karts yesterday for the first in a while and fixed up a few tidbits of things here and there regarding player collisions. Currently, in Demo 4.1, when the two players collide, they turn around 180 degrees. I changed that (because it was not nice), so now when players collide, they bounce back and their direction is changed slightly.
Once again, too little time for me to make a new blog account and what not.
I'd also like to put this up for everyone to
read. Read the article and read some of the comments and ask yourself this: "Are women playthings and housekeepers? Or are they living beings like myself?"
Anyhow, that aside, I have to go back to my Physics homework. X_x
Update January 30th, 2008:
Might get some more time to do whatever, depending on how hard Physics and Calculus are and how much time I spend on American History homework. Its not because I'm getting fired though, my school schedule isn't able to cope with my work schedule, so I'm going to blow two days of my work weekday, so I'll only work three days (I literally work one day ALL day). So yeah, maybe I'll do some SSK stuff or something whenever I have the chance- But only if.
Update January 28th, 2008:
While I was waiting for the bus today (to get to school), I had a brilliant idea. Mind you, I already had an idea like this but could never really figure out how to go about it. Well, where-ever I go, people say "You should add X character!" Unfortunately, the character roster is completely filled... But why should I limit the amount of characters in the game to what I can put in when I can have players add in their own characters? Mind you, I haven't set this idea in motion yet (been extra busy with school and a new job) but I'm 70% sure it is possible. The hard part is figuring out how to do it. Anyway, my idea is to allow the player to input two custom characters (that way, you can pit one against the other) by using "character packs" which contain the graphic needed for the character to appear in the screen and its stats. I'll most likely figure out a way to balance the game out (that's something I've been working for a while already, but this let's me actually have a physical guide on how to do it) so that players won't be able to over power their custom characters. :). BTW, still no new blog. Been too busy for anything.
Update January 17th, 2008:
Well, Google Blog (Blogger?) won't let me sign in because I forgot my password... And since it seems like I do NOT have an e-mail through MS Office Live after all, I can't confirm myself nor can I send a "Forgot Password" request. Sooooo... I'm going to do something about that eventually...
Anyhow, there's been nothing new on the project mainly because of college starting (a week before I thought it was) and my having both Physics and Calculus at the same time... and having work on top of it all. I basically have no free time at all except for on Sunday, but even that is riddled with homework. =_= This wasn't the honey sweet semesters of '07, oh no siree! Anyhow, someone in the forum ZFGC suggested I add Goemon to the character roster. I agreed but that means I'll have to sacrifice Bass (or Forte) from Megaman in order to include him. On top of that, I've been brooding for a while to the fact that I have no Atlus characters in the roster. I'd like to add in Jack Frost, but who to sacrifice? Maybe I'll go on ahead and sacrifice Tingle and put in JF in his place and make Tingle a summon...
Or did I already sacrifice Tingle? O_o Uh... Moulinoski, here, signing off!
Edit: I used up Tingle. So I'm looking at Samurai Goroh... or Lunick from Pokémon Ranger even though I already showed him off myself.
